About the Artist
Creating a piece of art is communication of a moment in time. My art gives people a reason to pause, catch their breath and experience something different; for the viewer it creates a moment of interpretation and discussion. My art explores the duality of the human experience – it highlights that the real beauty is in the mess, not in perfection. It shows the unwavering structure and formula in the natural world paired with the abstraction of the unique individual. It highlights the dance between structure and chaos.
I employ my artistic skills using various subject matters and styles to meet my main objective which is to communicate emotions, thoughts and truths relating to my life and dreams. I work in a combination of realism and abstraction. Some art pieces contain figures or recognizable objects, while others are total abstraction or detailed renderings of the natural world. The process of watching the piece evolve and seeing all the layers come together into one cohesive piece is cathartic; it is as important as the finished product.
I love the interactions I get to have with people through my art – to hear the interpretation of the viewers. I believe if we take the time to see the beautiful details hidden within, both the artist and viewer will have the opportunity to examine and broaden their perspectives.
Inspiration
Early on, I was drawn to the impressionistic style of Monet and Degas as well as post-impressionist Van Gogh. Later I turned to abstract expressionist painters such as Jackson Pollack, Lee Krasner and Helen Frankenthaler. Their willingness to separate themselves from the accepted style of art in their time, even after several defeats, I find compelling and inspiring.
